TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1855. News by the Mail. The Galena Advertiser announces the death of Robert Burton, a wealthy man, engaged in the Lead business, two and a half miles from Galena. He introduced the "Cupalo Furnace" for smelting, by which he realized a fortune. His age was 73. The Wisconsin Legislature is engaged overhauling the books of the State. Wisconsin has got ahead of Minnesota, but we hope Minnesota will soon follow in her tracks. We understand yesterday an effort was made in the House, to ferret out the cause of some of the corruption. God speed the right.- Resolution has passed the Lower House of the Illinois Legislature, appropriating the school tax for colored persons, to the education of colored children in separate schools. The Illinois Legislature adjourned on the 13th.-A portion of an expedition against Cuba, left New York city on the 9th. The whole number enlisted in the enterprise is said to be 30,000. The Albany Atlas states that the banking house of N. B. Kidder, at Geneva, N. Y., has suspended payment; liabilities $200,000 also the Bank of Bainbridge. Snow has fallen to the depth of six feet in New Hampshire.It is reported that the health of Mr. Mason, our Minister to France is entirely restored. The death of Dr. Huddleston, an eminent Physician of Troy, N. Y., is announced. Judge Trumbull, of Illinois, who was recently elected to the U. S. Senate, takes the place of Gen. Shields.
