Louis P. Hunner, recently arrested in the state of Washington. is wanted on 300 counts. The books of the Alma (Wis.) bank show that he or his associates misappropriated $150,000. Hunner's whereabouts were unknown, and search has been in progress for some time. His career in Washington is not an open book, but he has in a year invested in thousands of shares of mining stock which, at prevailing prices, are worth little or nothing. Recently Hunner sent for his children and they were followed by Sheriff Newton Johnson and Deputy Sheriff Walker of Buffalo county, Wis. They were armed with requisition papers and Hunner made no attempt to resist returning to his old home. Hunner is the brother of John Hunner, ex-state treasurer. He is well known to the many business men in Chippewa Falls and up to the time of the failure of the Alma Exchange bank. which occurred about a year ago, was considered well to do and a highly respected citizen of Buffalo county. The bank held the savings of many poor people. The county treasurer was a sufferer to the extent of $3,000, and the city treasurer of Alma to the amount of about $2,000. T. C. Bawley lost $11,000, and many others suffered losses of varied amounts. Few of the business men of Alma lost any considerable sum. Hunner's partner, Henry Ginsky, who has been paralyzed for years, is left practically penniless. He had $30,000 in gold which Mr. Hunner had given him a short time before the failure which he afterwards turned over to the receiver for the benefit of the creditors. It looks very much as if the outcome would be a number of years in the state prison for Mr. Hunner. He is now in jail.
