Failure of a Colorado Bank. DENVER, Dec. 3.-The State Bank at Julesburg has made an assignment. Speculation in Denver property and poor loans is assigned as the cause of failure. The amount of assets and liabilities is not yet known. Disheartened by Losses in Chicago. PARIS, Dec. 3.-Elia Ganon, said to have arranged the Tunisian pavilion at the Chicago Fair, killed himself at a hotel to-day. In a letter he said he had been disheartened by losses in Chicago.

JUDGE WINTERS, at Indianapolis, has settled the Iron Hall controversy by making the receivership permanent, and has ordered the funds distributed. LEDRU GUTHRIE has been summoned from Washington to appear befere the United States grand jury in Oklahoma in regard to the strip opening frauds. PRESIDENT PEIXOTO, of Brazil, is now an absolute dictator, and his ministers act only on his direct orders. M. CASIMIR-PERIER has formally presented the new ministry to President Carnot. COMPTROLLER OF THE CURRENCY EckELS has made his annual report, giving facts and figures regarding the financial situation in this country. J. J. VAN ALEN, whose appointment as ambassador to Italy called out so much unfavorable criticism, has written to the president declining to accept the place. TREASURY officials look upon Gov Waite's new coinage scheme as visionary. JAMES WINCK, leader of the gang who held up and robbed a St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern express train at Oliphant, Ark., about a month ago, has at last been captured. GOVERNMENT papers in Germany are advising the ministry to take the sternest measures to choke off the growing sentiment in favor of socialism in the empire. Colorado. The Wheeler bank at Manitou reopened on the 1st. Burlington, in Eastern Colorado, has just had completed a $10,000 flour mill. Governor Waite has removed F.A. Raynold from the board of penitentiary commissioners on the ground that his bank has had state funds on deposit. Judge Rising at Denver has decided that the warrants issued for supplies for the legislature three years ago must pe paid, although they were Irregular and excessive. The state coal mine inspector, Mr. Reed, has advised the striking miners at New Castle not to concede the reduction demanded by the company, and they have agreed to hold out for better terms. Ex-Governor Eaton has a large force of men engaged enlarging the capacity of the Larimer and Weld canal in the northern portion of Colorado. He expects to fherease the capacity of the canal to 1,500 feet per second. Governor Walte has appointed I. D. Chamberiain of Pueblo as member of the penitentiary board in place of Lieutenant Governor Nichols, whose term has expired. Mr. Chamberlain is editor of the Coming Crisis, a Populist organ. Serious trouble is said to be brewing at the state penitentiary. Complaints having been made against Warden McLister by his subordinates be has taken the bull by the horns and discharged his deputy, Bruce, who is a son-In-law of Governor Walte. Plateau Valley, north of Grand Junetion, contains about 75,000 acres of rich land, 50,000 of It under Irrigation canal. This valley wants settlers and enterprise to develop it, and above all It needs a road to connect it with Grand Junetion. Train No. 63 was wrecked half a mile above the depot at New Castle at 1 o'clock Wednesday morning. Two care are telescoped and six are off the track in all shapes. The train crew is all safe. The wreck train has been sent for. The failure of the air-brakes to work is given as the cause of the wreck. Colorado. Idaho Springs has a band of eighteen pleces. Burlington, in Eastern Colorado, has just had completed a $10,000 flour mill. The coke ovens at Crested' Butte are running to their full capacity. Sheriff Lovell of Yuma county was assaulted by foot-pads while in Denver recently and he was severely hurt, but the robbers were scared off before getting any booty. Thomas and Herman Chase and Freeman Chase, their cousin, have been arrested for murdering Asa P. Beam, postmaster at Lansing. A detective who has been working on the case claims to have good evidence against them. It is circumstantial. Gunnison county reports shipments of 25,000 fat beef cattle during this year, netting about $260,000. One stockman, named William Bnyder, shipped a whole train load of sixteen cars last week. This from one of Colorado's mining counties. Crooked Creek, six miles east of Buena Vista, is assuming some importance as a mining camp. The velns are reported to be large and well-defined, between granite and quartzite walls. Ore taken from the different claims will run from 83 to $150 per ton. Colorado College has just received a gift of 87,750 from Mr. Henry Cutler, of North WIIbraham, Massachusetts. He was setting off a blast in one of the stopes, and, while dea scending a manhole to get out of its way, a rope broke and precipitated him to the bottom of the shaft, a depth of thirty feet. He was at once taken to his home and medical aid summoned. On examination It. was found that his back was broken. The prospects for his recovery are considered to be doubtful , indeed. A Denver company proposes to make cement out of stag. The patent applied for is for "Disintegrating furnace slag." The disf integrated slag contains all the elements of k Portland cement. The slage is taken from the d furnace in a liquid state and is poured into = pits prepared for the purpose, charged with the Anthony process. In this process is concealed the sucret upon which Mr. Anthony bases his claim for a patent. During the subsequert cooling process the perfect disintegration occurs, resulting in the obtainment of a fine white palpable powder. An after process converts the slag into Portland cement.
