It will consist of 77 Members, 6 chosen by Providence. each by Newport, Smithfield and Warwick, 3 each by seven other towns, 2 each by eighteen towns, and 1 each by two towns. We believe all free citizens are authorized to vote for Members : but at any rate the apportionment secures the formation of a liberal Constitution. The Canals.-The Sun states the facts that the Canal Tolls collected at Albany last week were $17,518, and last Saturday $6,904-more than ever before in one day-and cwally asks, What say croakers to this Is the business of the country ruined 9" No, sirs the business of the countsy is not ruined. but on the contrary in a fair way to revive and flourish. The Go. vernment is now committed to men whose motto is not Pcrish Credit! Perish Commerce! and every where the confidence that no more experiments disastrous or hostile to the business interests will be made, at least for many years, is producing a salutary though gradual improvement. No! the country is not ruined, nor is the State bankrupt, though The Sun has labored hard to give the impression that it is. The noble harvest New-York is new reaping from her Canals is a signal rebuke to The Sun's panic-making in regard to our internal improvements. We looked sharp through the last Sun in quest of a blowing-up of our Loco-Foco authorities for removing that upright, patriotic, and blameless old republican, CLARKSON CROLIUS, from the post of Collector of Arrears of Taxes, and the election of Jonathan D. Stevenson of infamells motoriety in his stead. But we looked in vain! There is never a word about the bad morals of persons appointed to office in that paper unless they happen to be Whigs. The Editors seem to consider the morals of Loco-Focoism past praying for. I Hon. JOHN HOLMES of Maine delivered a lecture on Temperance at Pertland on Friday evening. Mr. Holmes is a thorough tee-totaler. The Eastern Argus says that he goes the full length against Intemperance in all its shapes-eating as well as drinking. To use his own language, he " shoots at the whole flock: beer, cider, opium, alcohol and tobacco." Oratorio of David.-We have only time to-day to say that this grand performance by the Sacred Music Society is to take place next Tuesday evening, at the Tabernacle, for the last time this season, for the benefit of Mr. U.
