failure of banks in the state caused the failure of the Bank of Gretna. There was no run on the bank, as such are known, but steady abnormal withdraw als extending over a period of time prevented officials from weathering the storm. It is hoped by the state department, now in charge of the bank, that orderly liquidation can be made.
Mrs. Bert McDonald, wife of the resident telephone manager, left an Omaha hospital Tuesday, following an operation for appendicitis.
Henry Mooding, prominent Chalco farmer, spent a few hours in Gretna Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Gift returned home Monday following a trip to western Nebraska and Colorado points.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nefsky are planning a trip to be made soon to ther ranch in Wyoming.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Roll of Chalco are the proud parents of a fine baby boy, born a week ago Monday.
Mrs. Ed Heffley, Mrs. A. E. Olderog and Betty and Billy were visitors this week at the George Heffley home.
Henry McEvoy is reported to be on the sick list this week, although his condition is not considered serious.
Mrs. B. F. Pendergast of Omaha, a former Gretna resident, visited friends here for a few days this week.
Word was received in Gretna this week that Mr. and Mrs. Chris Cordes, sojourning in Europe, left Hamburg, Germany, Tuesday en route home. They will stop on the way home for a few days in New York. They left here in April.
Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Fox of Scotia, Neb., Dr. and Mrs. Meyer Totman of Elmwood, Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Primley of Tulsa, Okla., were present at family reunion Sunday at the Fred Hartman home.
Mrs. Joe Weaver is suffering from a broken arm received in an auto accident.
Mr. and Mrs. Cort Tangeman returned from a pleasure and business trip in St. Louis and parts of Illinois.
Thomas Addleman, Jr., received three broken ribs in a ball game Sunday. He is getting along nicely and his condition is not serious.
Henry Fox, who is visiting at the home of Henry Biel, returned to home in Iowa.
Mr. Glenn Deerson, better known as 'Skeet," is here from Ewing visiting his uncle, Ernest Kellet. He reports the crops good in that section.
Mr. and Mrs. William Thomas and family were guests of Mrs. A. Bianchi over Sunday.

The M. J. Trihy home was the scene of a family reunion on Labor day. The entire family was present as well as many friends and relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Shipley paid a visit to the old Shipley home near Florence this week. This is their first visit back in 35 years. They were accompanied by Abe Cohen and son, James.

Banks Lerew spent abor day at Lyons, Neb., where he visited friends and relatives.
C. H. Runnells and family of Sioux City, Ia., who has been visiting his brother and family for the past few days, have returned home.
Glenn Schneider, who has been employed on a ranch near Casper, Wyo., has returned home.
Emil Stark went to Grant, Neb. where he will visit his brother, Hans and family, who live in that vicinity.

Mr. and Mrs. Perry Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nason and families are visiting relatives and friends. They live at Wichita, Kan.
Mr. and Mrs. Fremont Clark were guests of the E. E. Ellinger family over Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Holecek left Friday for a two weeks' vacation to visit friends and relatives at Billings, Mont.
Frances Olderog of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. E. Ь. Chapman and son of Grand Island, spent Sunday at the William Snare home.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fedde and family, who has been visiting with his mother, and his brother. Adolph Fedde, and family have moved from Venango to Râlston. He is a carpenter and expects to later join his brother, Adloph in the carpenter work and cement work here. Mr. Fedde was the first child born in Gretna. His folks were the first residents of Gretna and he was one of the first to enlist in the army during the World war.

A number of church leaders here, including Rev. John A. Hall, will attend the M. E church conference to be held in Omaha beginning Sep tember 15.
Miss Juanita Bolen has accepted a position as stenographer in the office of County Attorney Ralph Nickerson. Miss Bolen is from Kearney, Neb., where she held a responsible position before coming here.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stamm have as guests this week Mr. Stamm's cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bernecker and family of Kansas City, who arrived here Saturday.
Miss Stella Fase, who has been visiting relatives and friends here, returned Saturday to her home in Missouri.
Due to lack of timely rainfall, the peach crop in the vicinity of the George Cordes farm was a failure this year, while in other parts of the county, where rainfall was more plentiful, there was a good crop.
