LAUREL HAPPENINGS 25 YEARS AGO TODAY Quoted and paraphrased items of news from the 25 years ago Laurel Outlook. Wednesday. Feb. 21, 1923. Appointment of J. W. Corwin, Park City merchant, as receiver of the Laurel State Bank was made by Judge Robert C. Stong of the District Court, upon nomination of L. Q. Skelton, state bank examiner. The court fixed his bond at $25,000 with rate of compensation to be determined later. Corwin qualified immediately. He came to Laurel Tuesday and assumed charge of the defunct banking institution, succeeding J. E. Kurtz, deputy examiner, who had been in charge since shortly after the closing of the bank. -0Enthusiastic over the success of their pool in 1922, the wool growers of Stillwater county have decided to sell their product in one lot again this year. Last season the clip from 35,000 sheep, approximately onethird of a million pounds of wool, was pooled and sold for 40½ cents per pound. The 1922 clip averaged under eight pounds, but prospects are that this year it will average around 10 or 11 pounds per sheep. Practically every wool grower in Stillwater county is a member of the association, which includes growers of Butcher and Valley creeks. -0Helen Porter entertained some of her young friends Monday evening at her home on Second street in honor of her eighth birthday. Children's games were played and the hostess' mother, Mrs. W. E. Porter served refreshments.
