commended that no action be taken on resolutions in regard to County Treasurer White. The resolution of Shirley in regard to county money in State bank of Blue Hill was discussed and carried, and county treasurer reported that the amount in the bank at suspension was $2227 37. J. P. Eglington offered the following resolution: Whereas, a county levy of one mill for a road fund was made in the year 1894, a considerable portion of said levy having been cancelled and the county treasurer pay same back to townships. # Yance Sorgenson Yance Sorgenson who rented part of the poor farm and gave the county his note' for $10 for rent, asked that the sum be reduced $10 which was done with the provision that he pay the balance that day. Petition asking for a bridge in Line township between sections 12 and 13 was rejected. D. Peters was authorized to have painted and suspended some new signs for the Guide Reek bridge as soon as possible. A resolution by Shirley, requiring the county attorney to investigate the fees retained by J. S. White, and if any fees in excess of the amount allowed him by law were found, to bring suit against Mr. White at once, was referred to the comlaittee on ways and means. Mr. Shirley introduced a resolution instruct ing the county attorney to commence suit against J. S. White to recover the amount paid him by Webster county for clerk hire in 1894. Because the said White was never authorized by the county board to employ any assistant for said year. This resolution was also referred to the committee on ways and means. Wednesday morning March 11, 1896. Mr. Shirley's resolution requiring from the county treasurer a statement of the amount of county money on deposit in the state bank at Blue Hill, at the time of its suspension, and how much is still due the county, was laid over till next meeting by the ways and means commit-te. Shirles's other two resolutions were passed by without any action. J. P. Eglington offered the following resolution; Resolved that the county treasurer be ordered to pay the several amounts collected from each township to the several townships. The resolution was adopted. Board met in the afternoon, all members present but E. Peters who was unable to attend on account of sickness. Randolph McNitt appeared before the board requesting it to urge Judge Peall to call a jury for the June term of court to try the case of Anderson Soderlin confined in jail and save thereby the expense of keeping the prisoner till the fall term of court. No action taken. Treasurer White informed the board that $87.37 belonging to the county is in the Blue Hill bank. J. W. Warren was appointed county coroner the coroner elect failing to qualify. The board declared it had no jurisdiction in the matter of removing the bridge on section lin running west between section: 3 and 31, 7 3, 11 12.

# ADDITIODAL LOCAL. Mrs. Addie Liggett is here from Hebron. The commissioners will meet again Tuesday, March 22d. Mrs. Dell Olmstead, of Bertrand, formerly of this city is here. Mrs. Jas. Smith is visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Roats. Rev. Hussong has moved into the Winter's property on Seward street. A. P. Johnson and W. R. Anderson of Bladen were in the city Thursday. Mrs. Mary Clark, daughter of James Murphy, left Tuesday for Texarkana, Arkansas, to join her husband. Suit has been brought by the county to recover funds of the county in the State Bank of Blue Hill at the time it closed. Earl M. Hamilton of Adams county and Miss Eva B. Karnes of Webster county were married by Judge Duffy on Tuesday, March 16th. Rev. Darby has received a letter from Maj. Cole which does not give much promise that that gentleman will be able to come here to hold revival meetings soon. Chas. Bradshaw living west of town had a horse stolen from his barn at his home west of town. The county has offered a reward of $25 for the apprehension and conviction of the thief. The Ladies of the Congregational Church expect to secure the services of Miss Hattie Becker of Lincoln for a musical concert to be given about Mar. 25th. This will be a rare treat for Red Cloud. Prices and exact date will be announced later. H. C. Andrus was a pleasant caller at our wigwam today and gave us a dollar to place his subscription ahead for another year. Mr. Andrus is one of the pioneers of the county having lived here during the time of the buffalo. He came here about '72 and has taken THE CHIEF ever since. A fire occured on the Geo, Drake farm in Garfield township in which Abner Potter lost his house and contents. The fire was started by the overturning of a lamp about 12 o'clock on Tuesday night. Mr. Potter was absent at the time and his wife barely escaped with the children. List of letters remaining uncalled for at the post office at Red Cloud, Nebraska, for the week ending March 19th, 1897. Bumbaugh, Jacob May, I. M. Box 236. These letters will be sent to the dead letter office, April 2d, if not called for before. FRANK W. COWDEN, P. M. A bimetallic city caucus was held at the court house on Wednesday evening and the following ticket was placed in nomination: Mayor, D. J. Myers; City Clerk, R. P. Hutchinson; Alderman 1st ward, Jos Herburger; Alderman 2nd ward, J. A. McArthur; members of school board, J. S. Emigh, S. Beckwith, A. A. Pope. A man who had made his brags in forcible language that he would not pay his taxes to a gold bug treasurer, came to town on Tuesday to get married and as Treasurer White learned that he was going to leave the country he instructed Sheriff Runchey to take possession of a good team he had with him for the taxes.
