Dear The Commissioners of Petroleum County have been in session most of the time since the creation of the county last November During this period their minutes show that certain claims against county posedly demands for which met by the Chairman. the claims been okeyed by the Clerk, Chairman and assigned to Chairman. Upon the assigning claims the Chairman takes the claims and holds them his private property thus taking them from the Clerk and corder and placing them where cannot inspected by the public happened that the under signed, editor the Winnett Times, desired check certain against the county. The claim could not obtained understand that all such claims and records should remain in the possession of the Clerk and Recorder where they can be inspected by the public. If this is the correct status the case what action will be essary for me take to have the claims returned Clerk and Recorder and made accessible to the public. Esq., My dear Mr. Doherty: Your letter relative to the actions of the Chairman the Board of County Commissioners of the new county of Petroleum has been received. what you say regarding the Chairman paying the claims against the county and taking assignments from the holders these claims. believe that any such practice, being indulged in by the Chairman of the Board of County Com missioners, amenable to the provisions of Sections 447 and 10827 Rev. Codes, 1921.
