Shaw, state bank examiner, today took over the affairs of the Commercial Bank, four days after the disappearance of the bank's cashier, T. K. Shelby. The bank board of directors closed the institution at noon Saturday. A $100 shortage in the cash account was all the bank officials had discovered today.

STATE INTO BANK PROBE Action at Wellsville, Mo,, Follows Disappearanca of Cashier Wellsville, Mo., May 12 -The fffth day after the disappearance of T. K Shelby, cashier of the Commercial Bank of Wellsville, W. A. Shaw, state bank examiner, took over the affairs of the bank today for the state finance department. The bank was closed by its board of directors at noon Saturday after a brief morning run word sp ead through the community that Mrs Shelby, wife of the missing cashier, was endeavoring to find her bus5.nd, who left the town. ostensibly on a "business trip to St. Louis," Thursday morning. WELLSVILLE EMBEZZLING PRELIMINARY NEXT MONDAY Wellsville, Mo., July 8. (UP) Preliminary hearing will be held here next Monday for T. K. Shelby, charged with embezzling funds of the Commercial Bank here. Shelby pleaded not guilty when arraigned in justice court here yesterday, and furnished $2,000 bond. Shelby caused a run on the bank when he disappeared May 8. and the bank was closed May 10. F. H. O'Brian, of Brookfield, was here on business with the Walter's store Monday.

LOCALS Mr. and Mrs. George Allen and now Jr. of Chicago returned home yesterday after spending the week - at the home of Ross Newkirk. Mrs. Mary Sandburg of CChicago arrived this morning to spend two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Newkirk. Miss Mable Stone has resumed her studies at the state university after speading the week end with her sisters. Mrs. J. L. Bridgford and Miss Hattie Stone. Mrs. Frank Burton has returned to her home in Kansas City after a few days' visit with her sister, Miss Mollie Bell and brother, Jake Bell. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Bamman and son John Bamman and Frederick Robins spent Sunday in Louisiana with Mrs. John Bamman and baby son Bruce, who are visiting her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Prentiss Hovey Case. Miss Jane Moore, manager of the Western Union Telegraph office, is taking a vacation from her work and is visiting friends in Topeka, Kan. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Polley have returned to their home in St. Joseph after spending the Fourth in Macon with their daughters, Mrs. Chas. Weisenborn and Mrs. Earl Edwards and families. Their granddaughter Ailene Weisenborn accompanied them home for a visit. Mrs. Della Notestine and daughter, Dr. Flora Notestine returned yesterday from a pleasant week-end visit in Kirksville with Mr. and Mrs. Ward Camble and Mrs. Laura Millay. Mrs. Wendell Stephens and daughter Charlotte Ann of Denver, Colo., arrived the first of the week for a visit in the Dr. W. H. Miler home and with Mrs. Stephens' parents in Atlanta. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Poore returned to Glenn Ellyn Sunday after spending the Fourth at their home in Bevier and with relatives there and in Macon. They were accompanied by Mrs. Luther Owen and son Dan. Mrs. Owen was the guest of her cousin, Mrs. S. A. Realing and family Saturday. Mrs. Eugene Maupin and daughter, Miss Madaline of Clarence were Macon visitors this morning. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Bennight and Paul Croarkin are spending this week in Minnesota. Mrs. Bennight is enjoying a vacation from her work at the Mattingly Brothers Stores Co. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Sandusky and daughter, Mrs. Jeff Harrison and two children rarived Monday evening from their home in Tucumcari, New Mexico, for a visit with relatives and friends. Miss Charlotte Ann Stephens of Denver, Colo., underwent a tonsillectomy operation this morning at the Miller Hospital. She is getting along satisfactorily. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Woods and son entertained with a six o'clock dinner Monday evening. Guests included Mr.and Mrs.Ernest Lewis and son, Robert Ernest of Mexico, Mrs. Robert Wood and Granddaughter, Mildred Coppage and Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Wood. Miss Catherine Wood was pleasantly surprised by a visit from St. Louis friends Monday. A most delightful day was spent with games, music and visiting. At noon a delicious lunch was served.
