Resigns Bank Position Held For Forty Years After a long, active and honorable career as a banker, L. E. Robyn yesterday resigned his position as assistant cashier of the Hermann Savings Bank. Mr. Robyn has been a director of the institution since 1881 and was employed in the bank since 1891. His retirement from active service at the teller's window is regretted by the bank and his many friends. Mr. Robyn's resignation followed the action of the board of directors in making a slash in salaries. The board felt it to be its duty, in conformity with its promise to depositors and stockholders at the time of waiver signing, to run the bank as economically as possible especially in this time of depression and moral debt to depositors. For some time the board felt that the expense budget should be reduced strongly as has been done by banks all over the state. It was felt that, like in all other businesses, the times demanded a reduction in employes or in the wage budget. The directors felt that the bank could be well served with two employes or with three provided the assistant and clerk together could work at the salary generally paid an assistant. The bank's employes now are E. F. Rippstein, over 50 years cashier, and Miss Cora Baecker. The directors are L. E. Robyn, J. H. Helmers, Geo. S. Kramer, L. G. Graf, Robt. Baumgaertner, E. F. Rippstein and Henry Rothfuchs. The bank is making fine progress since its reopening Aug. 22.
