FAYETTE BANK CLOSED TODAY BY DIRECTORS Fear of Heavy Withdrawals Following Suicide of President Caused Action to Be Taken. By The Associated Press JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., June 11. The Farmers and Merchants Bank of Fayette with total resources of was closed today by order of the board of directors and placed in the hands of the state finance commission. Dr. H. K. Givens, president of the bank, yesterday committed suicide. COLUMBIA, Mo., June 11.-The Farmers and Merchants Bank of Fayette was closed according to the directors because a run on the bank was feared following the suicide of Dr. H. K. Givens, president of the institution at Fayette yesterday. The directors it is said were uncertain regarding the condition of the bank and felt that in view of large outstanding loans it was not in a condition to weather a heavy withdrawal of deposits such as might have followed the suicide of its head.
